Monica Steffi Matchado

Monica Steffi Matchado serves as a Research Fellow and lead bioinformatician at the Chair of Intestinal Microbiome, Technical University of Munich (TUM), where she has driven computational research since joining the Stecher Lab as a Guest PostDoctoral researcher in 2025.

Her academic qualifications:

• Bachelor of Technology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, India (2010-2014)
• Master of Technology (M.Tech), Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, India (2016-2018)
• PhD in microbial computational analysis, Technical University of Munich, Germany (2019-2022)

Her research integrates Bioinformatics and Computational Biology to analyze microbial communities, specializing in bacterial and phage genome characterization. She co-developed the Namco tool for machine learning-based 16S rRNA data analysis and focuses on Gut Microbiome dynamics, Phage-bacterial interactions, and Host-Microbiota-Pathogen systems.

As a core member of the Stecher Lab, she contributes computational expertise to research in Microbiome Evolution, Host-Microbiota-Pathogen interactions, and Gut Microbiome and Phages projects.
