Monica Seini serves as a Lecturer and supervisor at Gnibi College of Indigenous Australian Peoples, Southern Cross University, leveraging over two decades of academic experience across multiple universities and senior policy roles in Queensland Government environment and health departments.
Her educational background includes a PhD and First Class Honours Bachelor of Environmental Science from Griffith University (1991-1995).
Research focuses on Indigenous research methodologies, curriculum development, Indigenous peoples' relationship with natural resource development and extractivism, and the interdisciplinary nexus of development, environment, and health. Her work integrates community engagement and socio-ecological perspectives across environmental sustainability, health policy, and Indigenous knowledge systems.
She received the Inspiring Educators Award from Southern Cross University in 2021.
Monica actively supervises PhD, Professional Doctorate, Masters, and Honours students with a proven track record of successful completions at Southern Cross and Griffith Universities. She contributes to research ethics as a longstanding member of the CSIRO Social and Interdisciplinary Science Human Research Ethics Committee (CSSHREC) for seven years.
