Monica S. Clark

Monica S. Clark, OTD, OTR, is an Assistant Professor and Clinic Coordinator in the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program at the University of the Incarnate Word's School of Rehabilitation Sciences. She plays a pivotal role in curriculum development, student mentorship, and clinical program innovation.

Dr. Clark’s research and clinical interests center on stroke rehabilitation, narrative-based therapy, music interventions for neurological populations, and the creation of occupation-based programs in acute care settings. She is passionate about increasing the visibility and impact of occupational therapy in diverse healthcare environments. Her work emphasizes trauma-informed, patient-centered, and culturally responsive care models.

Her scholarly contributions reflect a strong focus on innovative program development, including antepartum and ECMO rehabilitation protocols. The publications highlight themes in maternal health, quality improvement, and critical care rehabilitation, demonstrating a consistent trajectory toward evidence-based, occupation-centered interventions in high-acuity settings.

Dr. Clark has mentored over 20 fieldwork students and numerous doctoral capstone students. She founded a mentorship program for new graduates and continues to support former students and colleagues. She is currently a co-investigator on a $5.2 million Department of Education grant aimed at expanding mental health services in schools, supporting UIW OTD students through scholarships, trauma-informed training, and a high school pathway program.

She is actively involved in professional and community leadership, serving as Chair of the Alamo South District of TOTA, founding the Occupational Therapy Benevolence Endowment, and consulting for nature therapy programs. Her work bridges academia, clinical innovation, and community service.
