Monica Meireles

Monica Meireles is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and an Associate Researcher at the Business Research Unit (BRU-IUL). She directs the Master's program in Business and Competition Economics and previously served as Director of the undergraduate Economics program (2018–2020) and Deputy Director of the Department of Economics (2014–2020). Her research focuses on energy and environmental economics, emphasizing renewable energy, environmental policies, and sustainable development. She consults for the Ministry of the Environment and European Commission, and is a founding member of the Portuguese Association of Energy Economics (APEEN), actively participating in its conferences and serving on its Supervisory Board since 2020.

Academically, she holds a PhD (2012), MSc (2004), and BSc (1998) in Economics from the Universities of Porto and Beira Interior. She has organized numerous conferences, including the APEEN Annual Conferences and events for the European Association of Young Economists (EAYE). Her awards include the 2018 and 2012 Prémio de Mérito e Excelência Científica, and the 2014 Prémio de Excelência e Boas Práticas de Ensino/Aprendizagem. Current research includes the R3EA project assessing renewable energy impacts in Portugal’s Central Region, focusing on emissions reduction and socio-economic benefits.
