Monica Lindh-Karlsson is an Associate Professor and Director of Studies at the Umeå Institute of Design (UID), part of Umeå University. Her research focuses on collaborative design practices, innovation in education, and future-oriented design methodologies. She leads the research project 'Design togetherness – How designers relate to each other when they collaborate' (2014–2022), exploring interdisciplinary teamwork and societal impact.
Her work spans theoretical and applied dimensions of design, including aesthetics, postindustrial design ethics, and strategies for cross-sectoral collaboration. Key themes include fostering innovation through playful methodologies and bridging academic, industrial, and societal contexts.
Selected publications highlight her contributions to design theory, education, and speculative futures. She actively engages in shaping UID's educational programs and research directions as a key academic leader.
