Monica Huisman

Monica Huisman serves as an Instructor of Voice at the Desautels Faculty of Music, University of Manitoba, teaching voice, opera role studies, and language diction (Czech and Italian). An acclaimed lyric soprano, she performs internationally with major opera companies and orchestras across Canada, Europe, and Latin America.

Huisman specializes in dramatic opera roles and concert repertoire, with particular expertise in Czech works like Janáček's Cunning Little Vixen and Smetana's The Bartered Bride. Fluent in English, Dutch, and Italian (conversational French), she integrates linguistic precision into vocal coaching and diction instruction.

She mentors voice students while maintaining an active performance schedule with orchestras including the National Arts Centre Orchestra and Toronto Symphony. Huisman extends her impact through community work with the St. Johns Ambulance Dog Therapy program alongside her golden retriever Lola, providing therapeutic visits in healthcare and educational settings.
