Monica F. Kurylo

Monica F. Kurylo, Ph.D., ABPP, is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) School of Medicine. She serves as Director of the Division of Psychology (leading 27 psychologists and 3 LCSWs), Director of Neurorehabilitation Psychology Services, and Program Director for the Neurorehabilitation Psychology Fellowship.

Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (Health/Rehabilitation emphases) from the University of Kansas, fellowship training in Rehabilitation Psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) in Rehabilitation Psychology.

Dr. Kurylo's research and clinical work focuses on neurorehabilitation psychology, specializing in interdisciplinary treatment for neurorehabilitation, burn, and med/surg trauma patients. She provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment services across inpatient and outpatient settings at KU Medical Center and The University of Kansas Health System.

Her leadership extends to national roles including service on the American Psychological Association (APA) Commission Appeals Panel, American Stroke Foundation Board, and as clinical co-lead for the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR) PASC Multidisciplinary Quality Improvement Initiative. Previously, she chaired the KUMC School of Medicine Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure Committee and Faculty Council, and served as President of Division 31 of APA and the Kansas Psychological Association.

Dr. Kurylo provides extensive training supervision for doctoral practicum students, interns, postdoctoral fellows, psychiatry residents, and rehabilitation medicine residents. She instructs graduate courses in health psychology and coordinates the neurorehabilitation psychology rotation for the health psychology practicum. Her clinical work spans The University of Kansas Health System's Bell Hospital Tower, Medical Pavilion, and Marillac Campus locations.
