Dr. Monica E. Cardella is Professor of Engineering and Computing Education and Director of the School of Universal Computing, Construction and Engineering Education at Florida International University's College of Engineering and Computing. With a background in mathematics and industrial engineering, her research examines engineering design processes, mathematical thinking, and computational thinking across formal and informal learning environments from preschool to professional practice.
Her work investigates how children and families engage with engineering concepts, particularly through human-centered design approaches. She explores asset-based approaches in STEM education and the role of parents in supporting STEM learning.
Her publications focus on computational thinking pedagogy, design cognition, and engineering education research. Recent work examines how students develop human-centered design approaches and strategies for teaching computational thinking to young learners.
