Professor Mona Simion is a leading scholar in epistemology, philosophy of language, and moral/political philosophy at the University of Glasgow. She directs the COGITO Epistemology Research Centre and holds grants such as the ERC-funded 'KnowledgeLab' (€1.5M) and the Leverhulme Trust's 'Virtue Epistemology of Trust'. Her research focuses on epistemic norms, conceptual engineering, and the ethics of AI. She has authored influential books like Resistance to Evidence (2024) and Shifty Speech and Independent Thought (2021).
Her academic roles include Associate Editor at Philosophical Studies, Managing Editor at Ergo, and leadership positions in organizations like the Aristotelian Society and the Young Academy of Europe. Awards include the 2018 Mind Fellowship and the Young Epistemologist Prize 2021.
Research interests span epistemic vice, social epistemology, and the philosophy of gender/race. Grants and projects address topics like disinformation and wellbeing metrics. She supervises numerous PhD students and collaborates on interdisciplinary initiatives, including a documentary on vaccine hesitancy in African communities and policy advising for the Scottish Government’s wellbeing bill.
