Mona Abdo is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Biostatistics at the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH). She holds a PhD in Epidemiology from the Colorado School of Public Health and an MPH in Epidemiology/Biostatistics from Boston University. Her research focuses on improving health outcomes for aging populations with HIV, particularly examining pulmonary function, physical limitations, and quality of life in the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS). She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in medical informatics at the VA, focusing on pulmonary function and adverse outcomes in older adults.
Her research interests include chronic disease epidemiology, HIV/AIDS, aging populations, and public health data science. Key projects involve analyzing longitudinal data to assess how pulmonary function impacts frailty and physical decline in HIV-positive individuals. She has contributed to studies on regional disparities in fall risks among older HIV patients and interventions to reduce antibiotic overuse in geriatric care.
Dr. Abdo has collaborated on global health projects, such as evaluating biomass cookstove interventions in Ghana to reduce indoor air pollution. Her work bridges biostatistics, epidemiology, and clinical research to address aging-related challenges in HIV populations.
