Molly Lynch is a Visiting Assistant Professor and Chair in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at Hollins University. She holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from North Carolina State University (2019) and a B.A. in Mathematics from the College of the Holy Cross (2014). Her research focuses on combinatorics, particularly crystal graphs and permutation pattern posets, with interests in representation theory and topological combinatorics. She co-leads the Artemis Scholarship Program for Women in STEM and contributes to academic outreach as a Newsletter editor for the MAA MD-DC-VA Section.
Education:
- Ph.D., Mathematics, North Carolina State University, 2019
- B.A., Mathematics, College of the Holy Cross, 2014
Research interests emphasize combinatorial structures in representation theory and algebraic topology. Recent work explores shellability in permutation pattern posets and discrete Morse theory applications to crystal graphs. She actively publishes in combinatorics and experimental mathematics, including creative approaches like using Minecraft for mathematical approximation. Awards include the Gertrude McBrien Prize and a Provost Doctoral Fellowship.
Teaching spans foundational courses (Calculus, Linear Algebra) to advanced topics (Combinatorics, Real Analysis). She advises senior seminars and fosters student engagement in STEM through interdisciplinary projects.
