Dr. Molly E. Zimmerman is a Professor of Psychology at Fordham University, leading the Zimmerman Clinical Neuropsychology Lab within the Department of Psychology. Her research focuses on brain-behavior relationships in clinical conditions such as insomnia, sleep apnea, dementia, and mild traumatic brain injury. She explores interactions between cognitive abilities, medical conditions, and environmental factors like light exposure and sports-related subconcussive impacts. Dr. Zimmerman also holds a clinical license in neuropsychology and engages in teaching and applied clinical practice.
Her lab investigates the cognitive contributors and outcomes of medical conditions through multidisciplinary collaborations in neurology, neuroradiology, and pulmonology. Current projects include studying blue light's impact on younger adults, sleep-disordered breathing in youth, and the effects of soccer heading on brain structure. Dr. Zimmerman's work emphasizes preventive measures for cognitive decline and neuropsychological rehabilitation strategies.
Notable collaborations include studies with institutions like Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Columbia University, and the Einstein Aging Study. She supervises graduate and undergraduate students in clinical psychology programs, guiding research on topics such as sleep quality, performance validity testing, and forensic neuropsychological evaluations. Dr. Zimmerman's lab actively participates in conferences like the International Neuropsychological Society Annual Meeting, presenting findings on cognitive reserve, sleep-cognition interactions, and neuroimaging outcomes.
Her lab has secured grants from Fordham University and external organizations, supporting projects like the impact of light exposure on insomnia and the development of cognitive screening tools. Dr. Zimmerman's research spans from basic science to translational applications, aiming to bridge clinical care and academic discovery in neuropsychology.
