Caterina Mosti, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. Her clinical work focuses on sleep psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), as well as neuropsychology. She conducts cognitive assessments for various neurologic and neuropsychiatric disorders with special emphasis on older adults experiencing sleep disruptions and patients showing early symptoms of neurodegenerative disease.
- PhD in Clinical Psychology, Drexel University (2017)
- Clinical Internship in Neuropsychology, University of Chicago (2016)
- Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (2019)
- Teach for UCSF Certificate (2022)
- General Teaching UCSF (2021)

Dr. Mosti's research spans multiple domains at the intersection of sleep medicine, neuropsychology, and traumatic brain injury. Her work demonstrates a consistent focus on insomnia, particularly in military populations with traumatic brain injury, and the relationship between sleep disturbances and cognitive outcomes. She has made significant contributions to understanding how sleep disorders affect neurocognitive functioning following brain injury and in neurodegenerative conditions. Her research methodology combines clinical assessment with epidemiological approaches, often working with large veteran and military populations.
Analysis of her publication record from 2014-2025 reveals a clear trajectory focusing on the relationship between sleep disorders (particularly insomnia) and neurological conditions, with increasing emphasis on traumatic brain injury in military populations. Her work spans clinical guidelines development, epidemiological studies of sleep disorders, neuropsychological assessment methodologies, and cognitive interventions for at-risk populations. The breadth of her publications across neurology, psychiatry, psychology, and rehabilitation medicine journals demonstrates her interdisciplinary approach.
Dr. Mosti has established collaborative networks with researchers across UCSF including Andrew Krystal, Geoffrey Manley, Cathra Halabi, Pratik Mukherjee, and Amy Markowitz. Her work has been cited across multiple platforms including news outlets, social media, and academic readership platforms like Mendeley.
Her clinical practice integrates cognitive assessment with therapeutic interventions for sleep disorders, particularly focusing on older adults and those with early signs of neurodegenerative conditions. She applies evidence-based approaches to evaluate and treat sleep disturbances in complex neurological cases.
