Mohsen Besharat

Dr. Mohsen Besharat serves as an Associate Professor in the School of Civil Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Leeds. He leads three undergraduate programmes (Civil Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Civil and Structural Engineering) and teaches core modules in the MSc programmes Water, Sanitation and Health (WASH) and Environmental Engineering and Project Management (EEPM), engaging with a diverse international student cohort.

• Computational Hydraulics: Investigating two-phase transient flows, air-entrapment dynamics, and protective devices through advanced numerical modeling and experimental studies, including development of the TI-CAES energy storage concept.
• Digital Solutions: Designing AI-driven predictive systems and digital twin frameworks for real-time water infrastructure management, with applications in contamination forecasting and transient flow prediction.
• Engineering Education: Innovating authentic assessment models and virtual reality integration to enhance civil engineering pedagogy and student outcomes.
