Mohsen Beheshti is the Chair and Professor of Computer Science Department at California State University - Dominguez Hills. He serves as Director of Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, Knowledge Management, and Computational Science, and Director of Computer Science Research Lab (CSRL) conducting research in Intrusion Detection System and Data Mining/Big Data.
His primary research interests include:
- Network Security
- Big Data Analytics
- Data Conversion Techniques
- Multidisciplinary Research Approaches
- Curriculum Development for Computer Science Education
Dr. Beheshti's scholarly work focuses on practical applications of computer science in security systems, sensor networks, and data-intensive environments. His recent publications demonstrate expertise in intrusion detection, network security strategies, and efficient data processing techniques across various computing platforms from sensor networks to data centers.
His significant research funding includes:
- NSF grant of $9.9 million (2018) for CAHSI INCLUDES as Co-PI
- NSF grant of $5 million (2019) for Replication of a Cohort Based Computer Science Bachelor's Degree Model
- NSF grant of $3 million (2016) for Computing Alliance for Hispanic-Serving Institution
- LA Coalition grant of $50,000 (2017) for Cyber Security Training
As an educator, Dr. Beheshti has developed new graduate and undergraduate programs, created course and lab manuals, and hosted workshops for high school teachers to promote computer science education. He actively mentors undergraduate and graduate students through research projects in his lab.
Dr. Beheshti is a member of professional organizations including IEEE, ACM, NCWIT, and PLTLIS. He is a founding member of CAHSI (Computing Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institutions) and serves as the lead for CAHSI INCLUDES West Region, demonstrating his commitment to broadening participation in computing.
