Mohd Soheb is a Lecturer and Research Associate at the Department of Geography, South Asia Institute, Heidelberg University, where he has been working since 2021. He completed his PhD at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 2021, focusing on cryospheric processes and their impacts on high-altitude Himalayan communities.
Dr. Soheb's research primarily centers on the cryosphere, water resources, and climate change impacts in high-altitude Himalayan regions, particularly the Trans-Himalaya region of Ladakh and Upper Indus Basin. His work examines water resources in cold-arid mountain environments, glacier dynamics, hydrological processes, and how these systems interact with local livelihoods. His expertise spans glacier dynamics, hydrological modeling, environmental monitoring, and remote sensing applications in high mountain regions.
His publication record demonstrates a strong focus on understanding glacier changes, water flow dynamics, and climate impacts in the Ladakh region. Over the past five years, his research has increasingly incorporated socio-hydrological perspectives, examining how cryosphere changes affect local communities and their adaptation strategies. His work combines field measurements with remote sensing data to analyze glacier mass balance, surface and subsurface hydrology, and cryospheric hazards in the Trans-Himalaya.
Dr. Soheb's research contributes significantly to understanding water security challenges in high mountain regions under climate change, with implications for both scientific understanding and practical water resource management in vulnerable Himalayan communities.
