Mohd Hwaidi is Associate Professor in Law at the University of Birmingham, Dubai Campus, and serves as the Director of the LLM Programme there. He is affiliated with the Birmingham Law School and holds an additional role as an Honorary Research Associate at University College London’s Centre of Blockchain. He is also a Fellow of UK Higher Education. Previously, he held academic positions at the University of Birmingham (Edgbaston), University of Dundee, and Nottingham Trent University.

Dr Hwaidi's research centers on commercial law, particularly documentary letters of credit, international trade law, and the legal implications of blockchain and digital trade. He explores the interplay between law and sociology in shaping commercial norms, especially in electronic bills of lading and transnational trade practices. His work combines doctrinal, comparative, and empirical methodologies.
The recent publications reflect a strong trajectory in digital transformation in trade finance, focusing on blockchain, electronic documentation, and the reform of UCP 600. His research bridges traditional commercial law doctrines with emerging technologies, analyzing legal autonomy, fraud exceptions, and compliance frameworks across jurisdictions including England, Jordan, and Arabic legal systems.

Dr Hwaidi actively supervises PhD candidates in areas such as commercial law, arbitration, blockchain, and maritime law. He has led curriculum development for LLM programs, including modules on Cyberlaw, E-Commerce Law, and International Sale of Goods. He previously served as Course Leader for LLM Competition Law and LLB Equity and Trusts at the UK campus.
He founded The Advisory Network For The Future of Blockchain (ANFB), highlighting his leadership in interdisciplinary research connecting law, technology, and commercial practice.
