Mohammed Safi is an Associate Professor at the College of Education and Allied Health Professions at Fontbonne University. His academic journey includes a PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders (with Distinction) from Howard University (2014), an M.S. in Speech Language Pathology from Rockhurst University (2001), and a B.Sc. in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (1998). He holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
Dr. Safi’s research focuses on neurological and motor speech disorders, swallowing physiology, and autism spectrum disorder interventions. His work bridges clinical practice with innovative technologies, such as functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) neuroimaging for dyslexia studies and neuromuscular electrical stimulation for speech and swallowing rehabilitation. Recent projects include exploring fatherhood roles in disability care in the UAE and evaluating assistive technologies for children with visual impairments.
He has received multiple awards, including the Excellence in Service Award (2022/2023) and Best Mentor in Health Sciences Award (2022/2023). His teaching spans advanced topics like Neuroscience of Language and Neurological Bases for Speech Pathology. Safi’s interdisciplinary approach integrates global health perspectives, evidenced by studies in Ghana and UAE healthcare systems.
