Mohammed Rustom is a Professor of Islamic Thought and Global Philosophy at Carleton University and Director of the Carleton Centre for the Study of Islam within the College of the Humanities. He holds a Hon. BA and PhD from the University of Toronto. His research focuses on Islamic philosophy, Sufi literature, Quranic exegesis, translation theory, and cross-cultural philosophy. He has authored multiple acclaimed books including The Triumph of Mercy (2012), co-edited The Study Quran (2015), and recently published Inrushes of the Heart (2023) and The Essence of Reality (2022).
His work bridges traditional Islamic scholarship with contemporary global philosophical discourse. Awards include the Ibn ‘Arabi Society Tarjuman Prize, Templeton Foundation grants, and Iran’s World Book Prize. He serves as Editor for Equinox Publishing’s Global Philosophy series and on the Library of Arabic Literature’s editorial board. His contributions span academic leadership, editorial roles, and international fellowships at institutions like NYU Abu Dhabi.
