Mohammed Abid Shaikh

Mohammed Abid Shaikh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Physics at Georgia Southern University's College of Science and Mathematics, where he joined the faculty in Fall 2010 and teaches Organic Chemistry I and II.

Dr. Shaikh earned his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2007 under Dr. Bela Torok, researching chiral organofluorine compounds for Alzheimer's disease therapeutics. He completed postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School (2007-2010) developing MRI/PET imaging agents for cancer and Alzheimer's diagnosis, followed by natural product synthesis research at Cornell University with Dr. Frank Schroeder.

His research focuses on synthesizing biologically active natural and synthetic products, with emphasis on Alzheimer's disease therapeutics through organofluorine compounds, MRI contrast agents, PET imaging agents, and green synthesis methods for heterocycles.
