Dr. Mohammad Hedayati Kakhki is a Visiting Professor at Durham Law School, Durham University, where he has taught part-time since 2010. He leads the LLM in the International Law of Oil and Gas Contracts. His academic career includes a PhD in International Politics and Law from Durham (2008), following a Master's in International Law from the University of Shiraz (1997) and a Bachelor’s in Judicial Law from Shahid Beheshti University (1990).
His research focuses on cross-jurisdictional legal challenges, comparative criminal law, and legislative reforms in the Middle East, with a particular emphasis on Islamic law's intersection with Western legal systems. He co-founded the Islam Law and Modernity Research Group (2011-2014) and serves on the editorial board of the Manchester Journal of Transnational Islamic Law & Practice.
In practice, he is a member of the Iranian Bar Association since 1998 and an SRA-registered foreign lawyer in the UK. He has advised courts, governments, NGOs, and international bodies on Iranian and Islamic legal matters for over two decades.
