Dr. Ayesha Shahid is an Assistant Professor at Coventry Law School, Coventry University. She holds a Doctorate from the University of Warwick and an LLM and LLB from the University of Peshawar. Prior to her current role, she served as a lecturer at Brunel University, University of Hull, and the University of Warwick. Her expertise spans International Human Rights Law, Islamic Family Law, and Gender and the Law.
She has authored a monograph on women domestic workers' rights and co-edited volumes on International Law and Islam. Her research has been supported by grants from UKCLE, Max Planck Institute, and the Asia Foundation. She serves as Co-Editor in Chief of the Asian Yearbook of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and is an Associate Editor of the Manchester Journal of Transnational Islamic Law.
Her awards include the Warwick Postgraduate Research Fellowship and International Research Fellowships from Columbia University and Max Planck. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and actively involved in legal education and reform.
Her research focuses on legal reform in family law, gender equality, and refugee rights, with recent projects addressing child law in Muslim jurisdictions and marital registration practices in the UK. She supervises PhD students on topics ranging from child protection in Nigeria to the intersection of Islamic and Human Rights Law.
