Mohammad Ehsanul Kabir is a Lecturer in Public Service Management at the University of South Wales, Faculty of Business and Creative Industries, and a member of the Social Policy Research and Innovation Group. He has over 14 years of teaching experience in higher education, having previously held academic positions at Lancaster University, Griffith University, University of Dhaka, and University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh.
Education:
- PhD in International Development, Griffith University (2014–2018), focusing on migration associated with natural hazards.
- MA in International Development and Environmental Analysis, Monash University (2008–2009).
His research lies at the intersection of human geography, migration, livelihood transitions, and environmental degradation. He employs interdisciplinary mixed methods, combining qualitative approaches such as narrative inquiry, participatory GIS, and diary research with quantitative techniques like logistic regression. His work is policy-oriented, aiming to inform disaster risk reduction and sustainable development strategies in vulnerable regions, particularly in Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Recent publications focus on the Rohingya refugee crisis, internal displacement in Afghanistan, and reverse migration in environmentally fragile areas of Bangladesh. His research trends emphasize displacement, vulnerability, media narratives, and environmental resilience, often using spatial and socio-political analysis.
Scientific Engagement:
- Active contributor to high-impact journals and edited volumes with publishers like Routledge and Springer.
- Extensive consultancy experience in disaster risk reduction, including child drowning prevention and community-based resilience.
Dr. Kabir supervises PhD research and is currently leading two funded projects: one on reverse migration in Bangladesh (FBCI ECR Small Research Grant), and another on international students’ experiences in Wales (FBCI ECR Research Grant). He teaches modules on public service management, risk, emergencies, resilience, and global conflict, applying inquiry-based and project-based learning strategies.
He is affiliated with research networks across multiple countries and is actively contributing to policy-relevant social science research in vulnerable contexts.
