Dr Mehdi Chowdhury is the Deputy Head of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics at Bournemouth University Business School. He holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham and Master’s degrees from Ritsumeikan University (Japan) and the University of Dhaka (Bangladesh). His research focuses on refugee crises, international migration, economic policies, and sustainable development. Key projects include analyzing the Rohingya Refugee Crisis in Bangladesh and studying remittance impacts in developing economies. He has contributed to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to economic growth, infrastructure, and climate action.
Research Interests: Refugee management, migration economics, monetary policy, and human capital development. Recent work includes Rohingya Crisis research and monetary theory publications.
Advising PhD students on migration and development topics. Active in grants such as the Drowning Prevention initiative (NIHR) and nuclear energy cost studies. Involved in international partnerships with Bangladesh’s Ministry of Public Administration and academic collaborations across Europe and Asia.
