Mohamed Chetouani serves as Full Professor in Signal Processing, Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning at Pierre and Marie Curie University (UPMC), leading the IMI2S (Interaction, Multimodal Integration and Social Signal) research group at the Institute for Intelligent Systems and Robotics (CNRS UMR 7222). He holds key leadership positions including co-chair of the French Working Group on Human-Robots/Systems Interaction (GDR Robotique CNRS) and Deputy Coordinator of the euRobotics Topic Group on Natural Interaction with Social Robots.
His research specializes in interpersonal dynamics within human-machine systems, utilizing non-linear signal processing, feature extraction, and pattern classification to model synchrony, engagement, and learning. This work enables applications in multi-party human-robot interaction for detecting engagement levels, identifying personality traits, and assessing task learning through social signal analysis.
Prof. Chetouani serves as Deputy Director of the Laboratory of Excellence SMART (Human/Machine/Human Interactions In The Digital Society) and coordinates the ANIMATAS H2020 Marie Sklodowska Curie European Training Network. He previously held a Visiting Professorship at the University of Twente's Human Media Interaction group in 2016.
