Prof. Modinos is a Professor of Neuroscience & Mental Health at King's College London's Department of Psychological Medicine, part of the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). She also leads the Group at the MRC Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Her career includes roles such as Reader, Senior Lecturer, and Wellcome Trust Sir Henry Dale Fellow. She chairs the ENIGMA Schizotypy consortium and holds leadership positions in organizations like the Schizophrenia International Research Society and Young Academy of Europe.
Education: BSc Psychology & MSc Applied Neurosciences (Barcelona), PhD Neuroscience (University of Groningen). Research focuses on psychosis vulnerability mechanisms, combining neuroimaging and preclinical models, with emphasis on GABA/glutamate neurotransmission. She pioneered translational work linking neurochemical systems to MRI markers in psychosis risk.
Recognized globally for her contributions, she has received over 15 awards including the 2024 Academia Europaea membership and multiple Young Investigator awards. She serves on editorial boards for Schizophrenia Research and Neuropsychopharmacology, and actively engages in science policy, public outreach (e.g., King’s Artists Award exhibition), and patient collaboration through groups like SLaM Young Person’s Mental Health Advisory Group.
