Miłosz Giersz is a Polish archaeologist and Professor at the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Archaeology, Department of Archaeology of the Americas. A specialist in South American archaeology, he co-directs Polish-Peruvian projects like the Castillo de Huarmey Archaeological Project, famous for discovering an unlooted Wari royal mausoleum (2013). His work spans funeral archaeology, pre-Columbian material culture, and archaeometry.

His research focuses on Andean civilizations, particularly the Wari Empire (600–1050 AD), integrating spatial analysis, isotopic studies, and material science. Recent publications highlight metallurgical practices, ceramic production, and isotopic tracing of camelid management. Awards include the Prime Minister’s Award (2007), National Geographic Traveler 2013 Award, and honors from Poland and Peru for fostering international collaboration.
