Miya Warrington is a Research Fellow at the School of Biological and Medical Sciences, Oxford Brookes University. Her research focuses on the interplay between social evolution, behavioral adaptation, and environmental change, particularly in group-living species such as Cape ground squirrels and Hawaiian crows.
- Key Research Themes: Cooperation, Cognition, Communication, Conservation, and Climate Change.
- Methodologies: Field experiments, genetic analysis, and novel datalogging technologies to study animal behavior in dynamic ecological contexts.
Her work explores how social behaviors mediate responses to climate change, the cognitive underpinnings of cooperation, and the role of communication in group cohesion. She also investigates conservation strategies in human-altered habitats and the impact of the global pandemic on wildlife dynamics.
Publications span topics including:
- Behavioral plasticity in arid environments
- Avian vocal adaptations to anthropogenic noise
- Climate change effects on social species
- Evolutionary implications of cooperative breeding
Miya supervises Masters and PhD students and collaborates on interdisciplinary conservation projects.
