Mitchell Jackson is the John O. Whiteman Dean’s Distinguished Professor in the Department of English at Arizona State University. His work bridges creative writing with sociopolitical critique, earning acclaim for both fiction and nonfiction. He holds an M.F.A. from New York University.
Research interests include creative nonfiction, narrative journalism, and exploring themes of race, family, and societal structures. His 2021 Pulitzer Prize-winning article on the killing of Ahmaud Arbery exemplifies his investigative focus on racial injustice.
Recent courses taught include ENG 585 (Artful Attention), ENG 594 (Conference and Workshop), and ENG 665 (Creative Methods), reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary literary education.
