معرفی
Mitch Withers is an Associate Research Professor at the University of Memphis, affiliated with the Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI). He holds a Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Science from New Mexico Tech (1997), an M.S. in Geophysics (1994), and a B.S. in Physics from Millersville University (1992).
Research Focus: Specializes in seismic network operations, real-time seismic data processing, and automated earthquake detection algorithms. His work emphasizes Unix-based C programming for developing tools to bridge conceptual seismic analysis with technical implementation.
Key Projects:
- Leading the Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) network analysis and analog-to-digital upgrade initiatives (e.g., 2022 White Paper).
- Development of automated seismic signal processing techniques for earthquake monitoring.
- Management of CERI’s seismic data infrastructure and computer networks.
Teaching: Instructs CERI 7106/8106 Signal Processing for the Earth Sciences, focusing on practical applications of time series analysis and digital filtering.
Labs/Teams: Active in CERI’s Rapid Response Group (RRG) for earthquake event coordination and the FedEx Institute of Technology for interdisciplinary research.
