Mitch Parry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art History and Visual Studies at the University of Victoria. He teaches Film Studies and specializes in film aesthetics, apocalyptic cinema, international cinema, documentary, avant-garde film, and slow cinema.
- Education: BA and MA from Western University (formerly University of Western Ontario)
His research explores intersections between cinematic and literary representations of consciousness, with a focus on directors like Sergei Eisenstein and writers like James Joyce. He has contributed to critical filmographies of South American and Canadian cinemas.
Parry has published two poetry collections (Tacoma Narrows and Imperfect Penance) and a novella (Vacant Rooms), translated into French as Chambres Vides. His creative work appears in literary journals such as The Malahat Review, The Fiddlehead, and Pottersfield Portfolio, as well as the anthology I Found It At The Movies: An Anthology of Film Poems.
He has held filmmaking and television production roles alongside his academic career, bringing practical experience to his teaching at Western University, Concordia University, and the University of Victoria.
