Misha Portnoi

Professor Misha Portnoi is an Associate Professor of Theoretical Physics at the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Exeter, with a distinguished career spanning over 25 years. He holds a PhD in Physics (1996) from the University of Utah and a Candidate of Physico-Mathematical Sciences (1994) from the Ioffe Institute, Russia.

He has supervised numerous PhD students and led 12 major funded projects, including the EPSRC grant EP/Y021339/1 (£1.1M) and EU H2020 RISE projects (total €1.0M+).

Recent work explores two-dimensional materials with tilted Dirac cones, phonon-assisted recombination, and quantum ring transitions. His 15 most recent articles (2017-2021) emphasize terahertz applications, exact solutions for Dirac equations, and optical properties of graphene-based systems.
