Miriam Williams is a Senior Lecturer in Geography and Planning at Macquarie University and Deputy Director of the Macquarie University Housing and Urban Research Centre. She is affiliated with the Community Economies Institute and serves as Associate Editor for Geographical Research. Her work focuses on urban justice, care practices, and sustainable cities through projects like the ARC Linkage grant on public spaces and a book co-authored with Emma Power on care-centric urbanism. She holds a PhD from the University of Newcastle (2013) and earlier degrees in Human Geography.
Research interests include care-full urban justice, public space governance, food justice, and community economies. Recent projects involve collaborations on vertical housing, food insecurity in universities, and transnational care-informed planning. She has contributed to journals like Antipode and Urban Studies.
Awards include 2023 and 2024 teaching excellence awards. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, co-design methodologies, and community engagement. She leads initiatives such as the Power of Public Spaces project, advocating for inclusive urban design.
