Miriam Oschkinat is a phonetics researcher with a Ph.D. in Phonetics and Speech Processing from LMU Munich, currently working as a Researcher at the Laboratory Phonology department of the Leibniz Center for General Linguistics (ZAS). Her work explores speech timing, auditory feedback perturbation, and the interplay between feedback and feedforward mechanisms in speech production. She also investigates timing deficits in persons who stutter and the relationship between music and speech timing.
- Ph.D. in Phonetics and Speech Processing
- Background in Music and German Studies
Research Focus:
Using temporal auditory feedback perturbation to analyze cognitive representations of speech timing. Current projects compare Quebec French speakers (musicians vs. non-musicians) across speech and music production, and examine stuttering through feedback mechanisms. She is expanding into sociophonetics, studying how spatial environments and speaking partners affect speech acoustics.
Collaborations:
Linked to the DFG-funded SFB 1412 Register Project C02, and associated with BRAMS (Montreal). Active in virtual reality applications for sociophonetic studies.
Labs & Teams:
Works at ZAS's Laboratory Phonology, collaborating with Philip Hoole, Simone Falk, and others.
