Miriam Berg is an Associate Professor in the Journalism & Strategic Communication Program at Northwestern University Qatar. Her research focuses on media consumption patterns among Arab, refugee, migrant, and diasporic audiences, with notable attention to the transnational appeal of Turkish cultural products and their role in Turkish soft power. She holds a doctorate from the University of Westminster's School of Media and Communication, alongside a bachelor's in communication/audio-visual production and a master's in communication management.
Educationally, she completed her PhD at the University of Westminster, followed by a master's and bachelor's degree in communication fields. Professionally, she has worked at Al Jazeera English and Bloomberg News, bringing practical media experience to her academic work. Her research explores themes such as digital media's role in refugee integration, information precarity faced by displaced populations, and the cultural dynamics of Turkish television's global reception.
Berg’s publications include her 2023 book Turkish Drama Serials: The Importance and Influence of a Globally Popular Television Phenomenon. Her work has been recognized with the 'Best Paper' award at the 2021 UTAS International Conference for her analysis of Qatari audience media selection. She advises the Qatari Culture Club at NU-Q and contributes to interdisciplinary research on media's societal impact.
Her grants and advising efforts emphasize bridging academic research with real-world challenges, particularly in media access for marginalized groups.
