Miriam A. Bredella, MD, MBA, is a Professor of Radiology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and Associate Dean for Translational Science. She serves as Director of NYU Langone’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute and Vice Chair for Strategy in the Department of Radiology, leading initiatives in artificial intelligence integration and clinical research partnerships.
- Education: MD from University of Hamburg (1997), Residency at University of California, San Francisco (2004), Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital (2005), MBA from MIT (2022)
Her research focuses on metabolic imaging, obesity, and bone metabolism using advanced functional imaging techniques like MR spectroscopy and opportunistic CT. She developed methods to quantify bone marrow adipose tissue, brown fat, and muscle mitochondrial function to assess their impact on bone health, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular risk across diverse populations.
Recent publications highlight her work on AI-driven cardiovascular risk prediction via CT imaging, diversity initiatives in radiology, and remote work dynamics in academic medicine. Her research bridges diagnostic imaging with translational science to address aging-related metabolic and musculoskeletal disorders.
Scientific leadership and awards include:
- Innovative Initiatives Award (Boston Women’s Workforce Council)
- AAMC Group on Women in Medicine and Science Leadership Award
- Shirley Driscoll Dean’s Leadership Award (Harvard Medical School)
- Fellow, American College of Radiology
- National Academy of Medicine Scholar in Diagnostic Excellence
In her administrative roles, she mentors clinical research leaders, enhances trial recruitment via technology, and fosters external partnerships to advance diagnostic equity and reduce errors. She also contributes to National Academies consensus reports on healthcare improvement.
