Prof. Mirella Agorni is a Full Professor of English Language, Translation, and Linguistics at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, affiliated with the Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies (DSLCC) and the Interdepartmental School of Economics, Languages, and Entrepreneurship for International Exchanges (SELISI). She serves as a contact person for the Treviso Campus. Her expertise spans translation theory, history of translation, and tourism discourse analysis, with a focus on cultural mediation and the role of women in translation history.
Education: PhD in Translation Studies (Warwick University, 1998), M.A. in Translation Studies (Warwick University, 1992), Laurea in Foreign Languages and Literatures (University of Verona, 1990).
Research interests include translation historiography, tourism communication strategies, and the diachronic study of translation practices. Recent work explores Italy's tourism promotion in English from 1919–1959 (DIETALY project) and women's contributions to translation history. She has led projects funded by the MIUR and EU, including the PRIN-funded DIETALY initiative.
She organizes international conferences such as the Winter School in Translation Studies and collaborates with institutions like the European Commission's Directorate-General for Translation. Her publications include monographs, edited volumes, and articles in journals like Altro Modernità and Cultus.
