Dr Miranda Bevan is a Lecturer in Law at King's College London's Dickson Poon School of Law, specializing in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice with a focus on vulnerable suspects and children in police custody. She holds a PhD from the London School of Economics (2019) and has extensive professional experience as a criminal barrister (2000–2012), Law Commission lawyer (2012–2014), and policy advocate.
Education: PhD in Law (LSE, 2019); Legal Practice as Barrister at 2 Hare Court Chambers.
Research Interests:
- Child suspects' experiences in police custody
- Effectiveness of criminal justice participation for vulnerable groups
- Policing practices affecting children and vulnerable adults
Grants & Collaborations: Co-Investigator on Nuffield Foundation grant (2024) piloting a 'Child First' approach; Secretariat for All-Party Parliamentary Group on Children in Police Custody.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with Independent Custody Visitors Association, National Appropriate Adult Network, and EU COST Action 'Justice to youth language needs'.
