Miquel Solà is a Professor at the Institut de Química Computacional i Catàlisi (IQCC) of the University of Girona (UdG). With over 30 years of academic leadership, he has significantly advanced Theoretical and Computational Chemistry in Spain. His career includes mentoring numerous leading scientists and holding directorships at IQCC, the UdG Department of Chemistry, and the School of Doctoral Studies.
- PhD in Chemistry (1991) from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), awarded the Saint Albert Prize
- Permanent full professor at UdG since 2003
- Recipient of the 2025 RSEQ Medal, ICREA Academia Prize (3x), and the Physical Chemistry Prize (2013)
Solà’s research spans aromaticity, nanomaterials, and reaction mechanisms, with over 520 publications and 27 completed doctoral theses. His recent work focuses on 3D/σ-aromaticity in clusters, fullerene-perovskite interactions, and green energy applications like CO2 reduction.
Scientific Awards:
- 2025 RSEQ Medal
- ICREA Academia Prize (2009, 2014, 2024)
- Physical Chemistry Prize (2013)
- Distinction for University Research Promotion (2001)
As a mentor, Solà has supervised 27 completed PhD theses and 4 in progress, shaping the next generation of computational chemists. His editorial roles include Theoretical Chemistry Accounts and Scientific Reports. He pioneered foundational work on aromaticity quantification and its applications in nanographenes and catalysis.
