Minsuk Shin is an academic professional with roles spanning industry and academia. He currently serves as a researcher at Gauss Labs, an AI startup focused on semiconductor manufacturing processes. Previously, he held a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Statistics, University of South Carolina. Before that, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard Data Science Initiative and Harvard University’s Department of Statistics, mentored by Jun Liu. He earned his PhD in Statistics from Texas A&M University under Valen E. Johnson and Anirban Bhattacharya.
- Current Role: AI Startup Researcher (Gauss Labs)
- Previous Faculty: University of South Carolina (Department of Statistics)
- Postdoctoral Affiliation: Harvard University
His research focuses on developing statistical and machine learning models for noisy time-series data and small sample sizes, with expertise in Bayesian methods and high-dimensional data analysis. Key projects include computational strategies for detecting relationships in complex datasets and applications in industrial AI.
Shin received a National Science Foundation grant (2020–2023) to support his work on Bayesian and semi-Bayesian methods. His funded research emphasizes efficient algorithms and model selection in high-dimensional spaces.
- Scientific Award: NSF Grant #2015528
His advising record includes no listed students, but he has contributed to collaborative grants. His industrial work at Gauss Labs applies statistical insights to semiconductor manufacturing challenges.
