Minkyung Kim

Minkyung Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Rutgers University and advanced degrees from Colorado State University and Ewha Womans University. Her research focuses on organizational communication, community resilience, and intercultural rhetoric, particularly in contexts involving vulnerable populations. She has contributed to ESL education in Korea through textbook authorship and a professional English platform.

Dr. Kim’s work bridges theory and practice, examining how organizations leverage communication networks to enhance societal impact. Her research has been published in top journals like the Journal of Communication and recognized by awards from the International Communication Association and National Communication Association. She teaches courses on organizational communication and community impact, emphasizing real-world applications.

Her research trends highlight themes of resilience organizing in humanitarian settings, digital inequality in disaster response, and the role of material artifacts in cultural empowerment. Grants include the Inagural JDMJA Professorial Scholar award and Global Partnership Grant. She actively mentors students and advises on grants related to communication resilience frameworks.
