Dr. Mingzi Zhang serves as a Researcher at Torrens University's Centre for Healthy Futures (CHEF), maintaining joint research affiliations with the University of New South Wales and Macquarie University. With over a decade of specialized experience in biomedical engineering, he leads innovative work in cardiovascular simulation and AI-driven diagnostic applications.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Macquarie University (2020), focusing on aneurysm rupture risk prediction
- PhD in Engineering from Tohoku University (2017), specializing in cerebrovascular stent optimization
Dr. Zhang's research program centers on image-based cardiovascular simulations using patient-specific imaging to model blood flow dynamics. His personalized treatment planning work applies computational modeling to optimize stent design and clinical interventions. A third pillar involves risk prediction through anatomy-haemodynamics analysis, combining vascular geometry with AI to forecast heart attack and aneurysm rupture risks. His fingerprint analysis shows dominant expertise in Patient Specific Engineering (100%) and Computational Modeling (59%).
His publication record demonstrates consistent output with 33 research publications including 5 in 2025, revealing increasing focus on coronary bifurcation analysis, hemodynamic characterization methods, and sex-specific cardiovascular variations.
Dr. Zhang actively contributes to the academic community as a reviewer for leading journals and previously served as the youngest session organizer at the International Conference on Fluid Dynamics (ICFD).
Accepting PhD students with computational modeling or medical image analysis experience, he supervises projects in medical image analysis, biofluid dynamics simulations, cardiovascular risk prediction, and endovascular device optimization. His work directly supports UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
