Mingjun Wei is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Kansas State University, holding the Harold O. and Jane C. Massey Neff Professorship in Mechanical Engineering. He serves as Graduate Program Director. His research focuses on computational fluid dynamics, acoustics, and control systems with applications in aerospace and engineering.
- Education: PhD (Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2004), MS (Mechanical Engineering, UCLA, 2001), and dual degrees from University of Science and Technology of China (B.S./M.Engr. in Modern Mechanics, 1996/1998).
Research interests include high-performance simulation of fluid-structure interactions, model reduction for real-time control, adjoint-based optimization, and applications in micro air vehicles, jet noise reduction, and underbody blast modeling. Funded by NSF, USDA, and DoD agencies, his work has generated over $5M in grants and 80+ publications.
- Leadership: Former MAE Department Graduate Director (2013–2016), NMSU MAE Academy Professor (2015–2016), and active in AIAA committees.
Directs the Computation Science for Fluids and Acoustics Lab, advancing interdisciplinary computational methods for fluid mechanics challenges.
