Ming-Yuen Ma

Ming-Yuen Ma is a Professor of Media Studies at Pitzer College within the Claremont Colleges consortium. He holds leadership roles as Chair of Intercollegiate Media Studies (IMS) and core faculty in the Intercollegiate Department of Asian American Studies (IDAAS). With a career spanning academic, curatorial, and artistic domains, Ma's work bridges experimental media, sound culture, and critical theory.

His research explores the intersections of aural cultures, Asian American media, and experimental video praxis. Notable editorial projects include co-editing Resolution 3: Global Networks of Video and co-directing the ReCut Project, a reimagining of Yoko Ono's Cut Piece. Current book project: There is No Soundtrack: Theorizing Aural Cultures Through Experimental Media.

Media critics like Laura Marks and Peter Feng have analyzed Ma's works, including videos such as Sniff and Slanted Vision, which examine displacement, identity, and memory across global contexts. His curatorial initiatives, like the Resolution 3 Symposium, highlight transnational collaborations in media arts.
