Ming Xiao is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He holds joint appointments within the College of Arts and Sciences and focuses on research in Several Complex Variables, Complex Geometry, CR Geometry, and Partial Differential Equations. Xiao earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Rutgers University (2015) and a B.S. from the University of Science and Technology of China (2009).
His academic trajectory includes roles as a J.L. Doob Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2015-2017) before joining UCSD as an Assistant Professor in 2017, later promoted to Associate Professor in 2021. Xiao’s research emphasizes geometric analysis in complex variables, with notable contributions to holomorphic mappings between complex manifolds, Kähler-Einstein metrics, and obstruction flatness problems. His work often intersects differential geometry and algebraic geometry, addressing foundational questions in CR embeddings and Bergman kernel analysis.
Xiao is a recipient of the UCSD Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award (2023) and has secured significant funding through NSF grants (CAREER grant DMS-2045104 and DMS-1800549). He actively organizes international workshops and conferences, including the Shenzhen International Workshop on Several Complex Variables (2024) and co-leads initiatives like the UCSD Undergraduate Research Mini-course in Complex Variables.
His teaching spans undergraduate calculus to advanced graduate courses on real and complex analysis. Xiao also pioneered outreach programs for high school students, including math summer camps and teacher training programs, emphasizing accessible mathematics education. He collaborates extensively with researchers globally, evidenced by over 40 peer-reviewed articles in top journals like American Journal of Mathematics, Advances in Mathematics, and Journal de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées.
