معرفی
Dr. Ming Tang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and NanoEngineering at Rice University. His research focuses on mesoscale materials modeling, particularly in energy storage systems, phase transformations, and microstructural evolution under extreme conditions. Prior to Rice, he held roles at LLNL (Lawrence Postdoctoral Fellow and Staff Scientist) and Shell Technology Center Houston. He earned his Ph.D. from MIT in Materials Science and Engineering, with notable awards including the DOE Early Career Award (2018) and Rice’s Teaching and Research Excellence Award (2018).
Education: B.S. & M.S. (2002) from Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Ph.D. (2008) from MIT.
Research Interests: Dr. Tang’s group bridges atomistic and macroscopic material properties through mesoscale modeling techniques (e.g., phase-field methods). Key areas include:
- Electrochemically driven phase transformations in battery materials
- Microstructural evolution under extreme environments
- 2D crystal growth mechanisms
- Efficient battery electrode design via analytical models
Awards:
- DOE Early Career Award (2018)
- Rice University School of Engineering Teaching and Research Excellence Award (2018)
- American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund Doctoral New Investigator Award (2017)
Advising & Grants: Dr. Tang has advised students like Youtian and Kaiqi. His work is supported by DOE and other sponsors, focusing on battery innovation and materials modeling.
Labs: Mescoscale Materials Science Group at Rice University.
