Mina Kleiche-Dray

Mina Kleiche-Dray is a Research Director at the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), working at the Centre Population et Développement (CEPED) in Paris. She serves as Deputy Director of the Societies and Globalization Department (SOC) at IRD and acts as International Mission Officer for the Latin America Region within CEPED Management. Her research focuses on historical and sociological analysis of scientific knowledge production, particularly in the Global South.

Her research interests center on the history and sociology of science and knowledge, examining collective dynamics and institutional mechanisms in scientific knowledge construction. She investigates scientific policies and communities in the Global South, relationships between scientific knowledge and local knowledge systems in agri-food contexts, and intellectual genealogies of radical social critiques of modernity from Southern perspectives. Her geographical focus spans Latin America, particularly Mexico and the Caribbean, as well as Jamaica.

Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on knowledge production systems, decolonial perspectives, and scientific institutionalization processes, particularly in Latin America and Morocco. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary issues of epistemic justice and decolonization of knowledge systems.

Mina Kleiche-Dray actively supervises doctoral students across multiple institutions, with current and completed theses addressing topics like food sovereignty, extractivism, migration, and knowledge systems in contexts spanning Mexico, Peru, Senegal, and Ivory Coast.

She has organized significant academic events including the Seminar on Postcolonial Approaches (SAP) since 2020 and the Abya Yala Decolonial Perspectives Seminar in 2020-21. She has also participated in organizing international conferences on globalization, knowledge circulation, and Caribbean studies.

Her institutional responsibilities extend beyond CEPED, including representation of IRD at the Institut des Amériques (IdA) and the Conseil Latinoaméricain des Sciences Sociales (CLACSO) in Buenos Aires. She serves on editorial boards for several journals including Revue d'Anthropologie des Connaissances and Revista Mexicana de Investigacion Educativa.
