Associate Professor Min Zheng is a Scientia Fellow at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), specializing in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He holds a PhD from Tsinghua University (2014) and a Bachelor's from Harbin Institute of Technology (2008). His research integrates environmental engineering fundamentals with practical solutions, focusing on sustainable wastewater treatment, microbial processes, and resource recovery. Notable contributions include the discovery of an acid-tolerant ammonia-oxidizing bacterium, enabling energy-positive wastewater systems, and patented iron-salt manufacturing techniques.
Research interests span nitrogen cycling microbiology, bioelectrochemical systems, and urban water sustainability. Over 150 peer-reviewed papers include high-impact publications in Nature Sustainability, Nature Water, and Environmental Science & Technology, with several Clarivate Highly Cited/Hot papers. Grants total ~$10M AUD, including ARC Linkage and Industry Fellowships.
Awards include UNSW Scientia Fellowship (2024), ARC Early Career Fellowship (2023), and Advance Queensland Fellowship (2022). Supervised 5 PhD graduates who have won prestigious awards. Current projects address net-zero emissions, waste recycling, and advanced biochemical processes in urban water systems.
Grants include 'Zero Emission Nitrogen Removal' (ARC LP230201054) and 'Sustainable Wastewater Management' (ARC DP230101340). Contributions extend to sewer corrosion mitigation, sludge valorization, and novel microbial technologies.
