Professor Bing-Jie (Bruce) Ni is a Full Professor at UNSW Sydney's School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and an ARC Future Fellow. He specializes in environmental technology and wastewater treatment, focusing on integrating process engineering, microbial biotechnology, materials science, and mathematical modeling to develop sustainable solutions for pollutant removal and energy recovery. His work has led to groundbreaking contributions, including a nitrous oxide emission model adopted by the IPCC and innovations in mitigating microplastics' impact on anaerobic digestion.
**Education**: PhD in Environmental Engineering (University of Science & Technology of China, 2009).
**Research Interests**: Sustainable wastewater management, greenhouse gas mitigation, anaerobic digestion, electrochemical energy storage, microplastics ecotoxicity, and renewable energy recovery from sludge. His team pioneered technologies for converting sewage sludge into medium-chain fatty acids and developed cost-effective electrocatalysts from natural minerals.
**Awards**: Over 50 international and national honors, including the Nature Index Rising Star, Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher, and recognition as one of Australia’s Most Innovative Engineers. His work has been featured in global media like Chemistry World.
**Grants & Funding**: Secured ~AUD $20M in ARC grants, including 7 major ARC awards, and collaborates with industry on projects like 'Circular Economy Driven Sustainable Green Hydrogen Energy.'
**Editorial Roles**: Editor-in-Chief of *Cleaner Water* (Elsevier), Lead Guest Editor for *Water Research*, and editorial board member for multiple top-tier journals including *Environmental Science & Technology* and *Journal of Cleaner Production*.
**Labs & Teams**: Leads the Water Research Centre at UNSW, focusing on cutting-edge environmental biotechnology and sustainable resource recovery.
