Dr. Min-Woong Sohn is Professor and F. Douglas Scutchfield Endowed Chair in Health Services and Systems Research at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health, where he serves as Director of Graduate Studies. Education
- PhD in Sociology, University of Chicago
Research Focus
Dr. Sohn's work centers on critical gaps in healthcare delivery through multiple interconnected lenses:
- Geographic disparities in diabetes care within the Diabetes Belt region
- Racial/ethnic variations in medication adherence and preventive service utilization
- Sleep architecture disturbances and cardiovascular outcomes
- Blood pressure variability in chronic disease progression
- Policy interventions like Annual Wellness Visits
- Surgical ethics and outcomes research
Analysis of his 2022-2025 publications reveals dominant methodological approaches using Medicare claims databases and polysomnographic studies, with strong emphasis on geographic (Diabetes Belt vs. surrounding areas) and demographic (racial/ethnic) stratification. Key emerging themes include continuous glucose monitoring adoption disparities and position-dependent sleep apnea risks.
Research Support
Dr. Sohn secured an R01 grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases for his diabetes disparities research. As Director of Graduate Studies, he oversees academic training in Health Services and Systems Research, shaping curriculum and mentoring future public health researchers through the PhD program launched in 2021.
